I Found a Good Alternative to Skype for Phone Calls!

All you Skype users out there likely know by now that it is being shut down by May 2025 and will not be option in the future for making voice calls.  I used to use it periodically to call people or businesses who only took phone calls on landlines.

There is service called Zadarma which I have been using for years for some mobile phone services and never had any issues with them. I didn’t think of them for voice call services before but as Skype was forcing my hand, I started to dig into it.   Zadarma offer a wide range of telecom services, including something called SIP service which can be used to make voice phone calls  around the world, via the internet.  As I already had an account set up with them, I just had to setup the SIP service.  I am not going to lie to you, it did take awhile fiddling around to get it working.  I even had an online chat with their support team to help out a bit.  I pay them so little,  I am amazed support is even available but they seemed happy enough to help.

Once I got it set up,  I made some calls from their app on my android phone and I would say that, though it is not quite as easy to use as Skype,  it is better all around.   There seems like less delay and echo on the calls. Also the cost is really affordable. For example,  the cost to call to Canada is only €0.004 per minute.   That’s much less than a penny a minute, I can’t complain about that.  All from a company I have used for years with no major issues.
